Jewelry Making Innovation | Britt Wolf and the Articular Arm®
Britten Wolf – Master Jeweler and Creator of the Articular Arm®
Britten Wolf is a master jeweler with more than 35 years of experience working at the bench. Throughout his career he has developed a reputation for precision craftsmanship, practical design, and a deep understanding of how tools shape the workflow of professional jewelry making.
Britten is the founder of BVW Jewelers, an award-winning jewelry store originally established in Reno, Nevada. The store became known for custom work, distinctive rings, and detailed hand craftsmanship. BVW Jewelers has been recognized in publications such as JCK Magazine and Adweek, and it was also named America’s Coolest Jewelry Store by InStore Magazine.
Years of direct bench experience shaped how Britten Wolf approached tools, workflow, and production. Working daily with jeweler bench tools and professional workshop equipment exposed repeated problems with positioning, stability, and control. Those small frustrations appear constantly during jewelry making, especially when working on detailed engraving, stone setting, or repair work.
Instead of accepting those limitations, Britten began exploring ways to improve stability and control at the bench. That effort eventually led him to design a more effective solution for jewelers. The result became the Articular Arm®.

A Career Built at the Jewelry Bench
Britten Wolf began working in jewelry at a young age and refined his skills through decades of hands-on bench work. His experience spans fabrication, engraving, stone setting, wax carving, repair, and custom ring design. These disciplines are central to professional jewelry making, where accuracy and control determine the final quality of the piece.
Over time, Britten noticed the same workflow issues appearing repeatedly. Delicate tasks often required constant repositioning of the workpiece. Adjusting grip could interrupt concentration, and small movements reduced precision during engraving or stone work. These interruptions may seem minor, but they accumulate during long hours of jewelry making and can affect both efficiency and results.
This practical experience shaped Britten's approach to tool design. The Articular Arm® was not developed as a theoretical idea or a novelty tool. It came directly from the day-to-day realities of working inside a professional jewelry shop.
Designing the Articular Arm®
The Articular Arm® was developed through practical bench experience. While performing engraving, setting stones, and completing detailed repairs, Britten recognized that many traditional setups required jewelers to constantly adjust the position of the piece or shift their hands to maintain control.
Those interruptions reduce accuracy and break workflow. In fine jewelry making, even small disruptions can affect the outcome of detailed work.
The Articular Arm® was created to improve stability while still allowing flexibility and controlled movement. Rather than replacing the entire bench setup, it was designed to integrate naturally into professional studios and artisan workspaces. The goal was simple: create a tool that allows jewelers to work with greater stability and confidence.
Built for Jewelers and Artisans
The Articular Arm® is manufactured from high-grade 6061 aluminum. This material provides strength and durability while keeping the system lightweight and easy to maneuver. The tool is designed for long-term use in professional environments where reliable performance is essential.
The system supports many common bench tasks including engraving, stone setting, jewelry repair, wax model work, and precision fabrication. Because it works alongside many existing jewelry making tools, it fits naturally into both established jewelry stores and independent artisan studios.
This compatibility was intentional. The Articular Arm® was designed to support real workshop environments rather than requiring jewelers to change how they work.
Commitment to Craft
Britten has always believed that craftsmanship depends on both skill and dependable tools. Jewelers working on rings, pendants, and custom designs rely heavily on the equipment at their bench. Tools must support the work rather than interfere with it.
The Articular Arm® reflects that philosophy. It was developed through years of jewelry making experience and refined through practical use at the bench. The tool was built to support the precision, control, and efficiency required for detailed jewelry work.
Many professional jewelry stores rely on skilled artisans to complete custom pieces, repairs, and one-of-a-kind designs. In that environment, the difference between a useful tool and a wasted tool is simple: it either improves the work or it does not.
The Articular Arm® was created with that goal in mind—to support jewelers and artisans as they continue the craft of jewelry making.
Experience in Jewelry Craftsmanship
Britten has spent decades working as both a master jeweler and a dedicated bench jeweler, refining techniques used in professional jewelry workshops. His work as a jewelry designer has always been closely tied to the tools used at the bench. Through years of hands-on experience with jewelry tools and specialized jewelry bench tools, he has developed a deep respect for the role equipment plays in precision work.
Professional standards and craftsmanship have long been central to the jewelry industry. Organizations such as Jewelers of America support education and best practices for jewelers and designers across the trade.
That perspective continues to guide his approach to jewelry craftsmanship, where attention to detail and control are essential. Whether developing tools for the bench or working on custom jewelry design, Britten approaches every project as a professional jeweler focused on improving both the workflow and the quality of finished pieces.
